It wouldn't be complete to describe Team Wet Planet without talking about the animals that you'll see around our base.   Itty Bitty Monster Kitty, Java Puppy, Olli, and Buddy are definitely fixtures at the headquarters.

Itty Bitty Monster Kitty was the first to arrive. One of the Wet Planet staff found her half-alive, barely conscious lying on the trail from the campground to the base building three seasons ago. A little black ball of fur, she was only a few weeks old and fit in the palm of your hand.   She was brought inside and the staff nursed her back to health.   In time, she became the Wet Planet cat, and she now lives permanently at the Wet Planet base. We did try to find a real name for her, but no one ever came up with a name that stuck. She was so tiny and feeble when she first arrived at Wet Planet that she just became known as the "Itty-Bitty Kitty." It was after she regained her health that the "Monster" was added to her name.

Itty Bitty was born in the wild, most likely from wild or feral cats, and definitely has a split personality... part domestic pet, part wild animal. A natural hunter, she regularly brings mice, birds, and snakes back to the Wet Planet base, more than one rafting guest has been surprised when two black fur paws reached up from underneath the porch to grab their feet, and the Wet Planet dogs have learned that she has deadly accuracy with her front claws. Always feisty and playful, she frequently gets herself into trouble. The Wet Planet crew are full of stories about her adventures, such as the time she vanished for two days and returned with broken teeth, a broken foot, and a swollen shut eye, or the time she chased a skunk and got sprayed.

Java Puppy is new to Wet Planet this year. A black lab puppy that belongs to Wet Planet Rafting and Kayaking owners Todd Collins and Jaco Klinkenberg, Java's father was a ski patrol dog at Stevens Pass ski area. A bundle of energy, she is easy to spot tearing around the Wet Planet property chasing and chewing everything within site.   With jet black fur just like Itty Bitty, she is also notorious for getting herself into trouble. Some of our rafting guests on a Hood River trip this season watched her take her first swim when she fell off the rocks into the river at the put-in, and she has spent time in the puppy hospital twice after she got Salmonella from eating a piece of dead fish near the Wind River. Fortunately for Java, she is growing at a rapid rate, and the balance of power between her and the cat is quickly changing.

Olli and Buddy are the two dogs that are most familiar to many of our guests. Buddy is the one that looks somewhat like a shepherd and Olli is the enormous lab that looks like he might be part horse. These two super-friendly dogs are owned by Wet Planet guide and kayak instructor Andy Round, and are always happy to greet guests with a wagging tail. Anyone visiting the Wet Planet Headquarters is likely to see these two dogs lounging in the sun, chasing sticks (or air from the raft pump in Buddy's case), or patiently playing with a rambunctious Java.   Lately, the two have been trying to sneak onto the Wet Planet shuttle vehicles in an attempt to head to the river with our rafting trips.
