Sara Cohen
Hailing from coastal Maine and arriving in the northwest via Colorado in 2005, Sara's paddling career began on the White Salmon River. Sara started at Wet Planet working at the base and getting out on the river as often as possible. She quickly picked up river guiding and now works full time for Wet Planet on the Tieton, Klickitat and White Salmon Rivers. Says Sara of the learning experience her first years: "When you're surrounded by such a strong team of guides, everyone wants to give you good advice and see you be successful." We'll give Sara more credit than she will give herself. Her professional approach to her career in the outdoors has led her to continue to develop her rafting and kayaking skills at a rapid rate. With four years of class III-IV guiding experience, Sara is both a certified Whitewate Rescue Technician and Wilderness EMT. A core member of our river team, Sara is one of our guides regularly requested by returning guests.
In the past years, Sara has also been able to take her skills to other rivers around Washington, Oregon, and Montana. In 2007, she was part of the Wet Planet team expedition to Peru. With her brightly colored drybag strapped down in the raft and paddle in hand, Sara completed decents of the world's two deepest canyons, the Cotahuasi and Colca River canyons. She also assisted in the first ever "Doggie Descent" of the Colca, with our trusty Peruvian Dog, Wairo.
In the winter, Sara can be found skiing the mountains of the Northwest and working as a ski patroller at Crystal Mountain. When not paddling or skiing, Sara enjoys road biking or trail running around the Gorge, backpacking through wilderness areas with Devin and her dog Murphy, or taking some downtime at Powell's Books in Portland.
This past fall Sara earned her EMT with Aerie backcountry Medicine in Missoula, MT. Most recently, Sara returned home to the White Salmon for a fourth summer after two months of traveling through Asia. She looks forward to pursuing her Nursing degree in Portland this fall.
