Devin Platt

A dedicated outdoor professional, Devin Platt works year-round in the outdoor recreation industry (while also working on a nursing degree), guiding rafts in the summer and ski-patrolling in the winters. A certified Wilderness EMT and Rescue3 Whitewater Rescue Technician, Devin is one of our full-time raft guides and kayak support boaters, as well as Trip Leader on the White Salmon, Klickitat, and Tieton Rivers. Combining an abundance of energy and an outgoing personality with excellent river skills, Devin is an essential member of Wet Planet's river staff. His outrageous "Husum Falls Talk" has become legendary.

An Oregon-born local, Devin was raised in Portland and grew up water skiing and snow skiing. As a kid, he enjoyed hiking and building forts in his back yard. When he wasn't helping dad with carpentry in the summers, he worked as a bike messenger and life guard.

Devin first began kayaking in the Big Sky state of Montana during the spring of 2004 and started working as a whitewater guide outside Glacier National Park in 2006. Devin attended the University of Montana in Missoula, where he spent a lot of time kayak surfing on Brennan's Wave, and play boating down the Lochsa River in Idaho. During his college years, Devin taught for the Multnomah Education Service District Outdoor Program leading outdoor trips and teaching Biology to 6th graders at a site based program. These programs gave Devin the opportunity to hone his teaching skills and work with youth in an outdoor setting, a skill set that is frequently called upon at Wet Planet. He also managed to earn his B.S. in Biology, with a minor in Whitewater Kayaking.

Before joining the Wet Planet team, Devin developed an impressive, and wide-ranging outdoor resume. He has worked as a raft guide on the Middle and North Fork of the Flathead river, led eight day backpacking trips for Glacier Wilderness Guides, taught month long wilderness courses in the Absaroka/Beartooth Wilderness and Selway/Bitterfoot Wilderness for at risk adolescents, instructed courses for the National Outdoor Leadership School in the Wyoming Wilderness, and led week long trips in Yosemite National Park, the Trinity Alps wilderness, Garibaldi Provincial Park, and Shulaps Wilderness for Adventures Cross-Country.

Devin has also spent time in the past years traveling. These include four months in Nepal, one month in Guatemala and Honduras, one month in Peru, and two months traveling through China, Kygastan, and Northern India.

Devin joined the Wet Planet team in 2008, and became a trip leader during the 2009 season. In the off season he works as a ski patroller at Crystal Mountain and attends Nursing school in Portland, OR.
