Curt Joyce

At an early age Curt was introduced to the adventure and excitement found in exploring the outdoors with a paddle in hand. His family went on many canoe explorations throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and West Virginia. That sparked Curt's life-long desire for adventure. As Curt grew older he started finding his own pursuits of liquid adventures. While in school at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, Curt enjoyed doing self-support overnight canoe trips and working summers guiding canoe and kayak trips in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Curt owned a whitewater kayak but only paddled it sporadically, as was devoting most of his free time to rock climbing. A few years ago Curt injured himself badly in a climbing accident in North Carolina where he suffering a dislocated heel and bruised sense of confidence on what was once very comfortable terrain. During his recovery all he could think about was being outside and on the water. From the moment Curt could get in a kayak the following spring, it was on.

Curt fell in love with paddling whitewater. In the past 2 years Curt has devoted himself to being on the water as much as possible. Curt loves the thrill of experiencing new places that few people have been and having the opportunity to take other people to such amazing places and experience the beauty that the forces of nature have created over time.

Last year this passion led Curt from sitting behind a computer screen making maps, to sitting in the back of a raft or paddling along as a support kayaker in Colorado on the Roaring Fork river in Aspen. He migrated back East for to work on one of his favorite rivers: the Gauley in West Virginia. This year, Curt is excited to have found a new home at Wet Planet. He was attracted by the beautiful rivers, welcoming staff members he's met in his travels and the ability to hop in his kayak and paddle some classic sections of water year-round.

In addition to enjoying kayaking, rafting, canoeing and any other man or wind powered water vessel, Curt still does some rock climbing. He also enjoy riding just about any kind of bike, fly fishing, yerba mate and taking pictures. Curt owns his own photography company and website (www.theperpetualflow.com) to share a glimpses of his life with his friends and family.
