Planning Your Rafting or Kayaking Adventure

Deciding to go whitewater rafting is the easy part. However, if you haven’t done it before, planning a trip takes a little bit of preparation. The easiest way to plan your whitewater adventure is to give us a call at Wet Planet. We will be happy to answer any questions and help you through the process of planning your trip. When you aren’t on the phone with us, here are a few key steps and suggestions to help you get your trip started:

1. Decide Who is Going:
If it is just you, then everything else is simple. You get to do whatever you want. However, many people feel that whitewater rafting is an experience that is best shared with friends. For those of you who are joining or leading a group, you need to consider the characteristics of your group when planning out the rest of the trip. We offer trips for all kinds of groups, from families, to corporate groups, to wedding parties, to Boy Scouts. Take some time to think about your group's characteristics. The following are the types of questions you should be able to answer about your group:

What are the ages? Have they been rafting before? Are they timid, or are they looking for high adventure? Is your group looking for an all day-trip or for a half-day trip?

2. Choose a River:
With Wet Planet you can choose between the White Salmon River, Tieton River, Farmlands River, Klickitat River, and the Wind River depending upon what your group is looking for. Each of these rivers offers a unique whitewater experience. Whether you are a first time rafter or an experienced river runner, looking for a half-day or a full-day trip, trying to get the family out together or planning a team-building getaway for your work group, one of these rivers will suit your needs. Check out our rivers page or give us a call for help in selecting a river.

3. Are you interested in other group activities?
Your group might be interested in a barbecue after the trip, or your family might like to camp at our headquarters the night before the trip. At Wet Planet we offer a whole variety of services outside of our rafting trips to make your time spent with us a complete experience. Check out our groups page or give us a call for ideas or more information.

4. Pick a Day:
We run trips May through September, seven days a week. The Klickitat River and the Wind River run in the spring (May and June), the White Salmon runs April through September, and the Tieton runs in September. In the spring, the water is running higher and faster, but the weather is colder. Later in the summer, the water will be lower, but the weather will be warmer. Generally, the busiest times of the year are the second half of June through August, with weekends much busier than weekdays.

5. Make a Reservation:
Reservations are recommended for all Wet Planet Rafting trips. It is possible to arrive and jump on a trip that still has space without reservations, but it is not very likely. In general, you should make reservations as soon as you know when you would like to join us on the river. Weekends in the summer fill up quickly, often months in advance. On weekdays, it is frequently possible to make reservations with just a couple of days' notice. To make reservations, just contact us at Wet Planet.

6. Show up at the Wet Planet Headquarters:
Once your reservations are complete, all you need to do is arrive at Wet Planet with your group at the time of your scheduled trip time. We will take care of everything else from there, so you can relax and enjoy your whitewater adventure.
