This three-day whitewater
kayak instruction course is designed to introduce beginner paddlers
to the sport of white water kayaking. The goal of this course is to
provide novice kayakers with a solid foundation of basic kayaking
skills necessary to begin kayaking in Class I and II whitewater.
The course is based out of our riverside headquarters in the Columbia
River Gorge. On the first day, we will introduce students to the equipment
necessary for kayaking and assist students with equipment selection
and boat fitting. We will then spend time in the pool learning the
basics of safe boat exit and practicing the fundamentals for the Eskimo
roll progression. After the pool session, we are off to the lake to
work on the basics of kayak handling and maneuvering. The second two
days of the course are spent on the rivers of the Columbia River Gorge
developing fundamental paddling skills. Progressing from slow moving
water to class II whitewater, we will practice basic boat handling,
eddy-turns and peel-outs, ferrying, water reading, self-rescue techniques,
and safe paddling techniques. |

"I wanted to send a quick
message telling y ou how much I enjoyed my time kayaking with
Wet Planet on Friday and Saturday. You run a friendly and efficient
business with reasonable prices. Clients cannot ask for more.
I would be amiss not to mention what a great instructor you have
in Heather. She was knowledge and safety oriented. She pushed
me out of my comfort zone without getting me in over my head (Although
I did find myself upside down a few times). But most of all she
made the days fun." Graham, St. Petersburg, Florida
