Planning a Whitewater Rafting or Kayaking Trip in Oregon and Washington

Deciding to go whitewater rafting or kayaking is the easy part. However, if you haven’t done it before, planning a trip takes a little bit of preparation. The easiest way to plan your whitewater adventure is to give us a call at Wet Planet. We will be happy to answer any questions and help you through the process of planning your trip. When you aren’t on the phone with us, here are a few key steps and suggestions to help you get your trip started:

1. Decide who is going:

If it is just you, then everything else is simple. You get to do whatever you want. However, many people feel that whitewater rafting or kayaking is an experience that is best shared with friends. For those of you who are joining or leading a group, you need to consider the characteristics of your group when planning out the rest of the trip. We offer trips for all kinds of groups, from families, to corporate groups, to wedding parties, or youth groups. Take some time to think about your group's characteristics. The following are the types of questions you should be able to answer about your group:

What are the ages? Have they been rafting before? Are they looking for a scenic float or an intense whitewater experience? Is your group looking for a day river rafting trip, multi-day trip, kayak course, or an international river rafting and kayaking trip?

2. Choose a river or course:

With Wet Planet you have a wide variety of rivers and destinations to choose from depending upon what your group’s interests. Each of these rivers and destinations offers a unique whitewater experience. Whether you are a first time rafter or an experienced river runner, a beginner kayaker or a seasoned expert, we have something to satisfy your palate.   Let us help you choose the right trip for your family, friends, or company by giving us a call or browsing the many whitewater rafting trips and kayaking trips we offer.

3. Are you interested in other group activities?

Your group might be interested in a barbecue after the trip, or maybe your group would like to camp at our headquarters the night before your trip. At Wet Planet we offer a whole variety of services outside of our trips to make your time spent with us a complete experience. Check out our group’s page or give us a call for ideas or more information.

4. Pick a date:

We run trips year round in 7 different countries.  We are based on the Oregon and Washington border in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge and from April-Oct. offer daily departures on trips such as the White Salmon River, Wind River, Klickitat River, Tieton River, and the Farmlands as well as kayak courses and clinics.  Our multi-day white water rafting trips have scheduled departures throughout the spring and summer.  In the winter months, we offer international whitewater rafting and kayaking trips to a variety of destinations.  If you’re interested in the adventure of a lifetime, just pick a time of year, give us a call, and let us help plan a memorable trip for you, your family or friends.

5. Make a reservation:

Reservations are recommended for all Wet Planet Whitewater Rafting trips or kayaking courses. It is possible to arrive and jump on a trip that still has space without reservations, but our trips can also be full. In general, you should make reservations as soon as you know when you would like to join us on the river. Weekends in the summer fill up quickly, often months in advance. On weekdays, it is frequently possible to make reservations with just a couple of days’ notice. To make reservations, just contact us at Wet Planet or reserve online!

6. Show up at the Wet Planet Headquarters:

Once your reservations are complete, all you need to do is arrive at the Wet Planet Headquarters with your group at the time of your scheduled trip time (check here for directions). We will take care of everything else from there, so you can relax and enjoy your whitewater adventure.  For our multi-day trips and international trips, we will provide you with detailed itineraries and timetables to help you in planning all of your travel arrangements.  If you need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
