Kayaking with Wet Planet on Oregon’s “Wild and Scenic” Rogue River
An opportunity crazy to pass on? Last summer a few instructors from the Wet Planet Kayak School (Andy Round, Steve White and Drew Austell) were invited to help out with some of the Sundance Kayaking School courses on Oregon's mighty Rogue River, and so a new relationship was born. Our instructors loved it, the kayakers loved it, Sundance appreciated our help, Wet Planet loved to do it. And now, we are happy to announce Wet Planet will run a few of our own kayaking adventures this summer on the Rogue River, in partnership with Sundance. We are all very excited to offer Wet Planet Kayaking students a new trip! A 6-day overnight guided kayaking adventure, on an amazing river. The trips will be led by Wet Planet's top notch instructors so you will have the opportunity to learn a lot while traveling down pristine beauty. The Rogue is one of the best rivers to learn on. While honing your skills and building your confidence, the pool drop rapids progress a bit more in technical difficulty each day. Not only are you learning about kayaking, you also have time to learn about the historical value of the area and enjoy the spectacular scenery and wildlife. Well-known for both camping and its riverside lodges, we are choosing to enjoy the amazing beach campsites the river has to offer. Yep, that means there's a good chance a bear might beat you to breakfast!
The Rogue River is located in southern Oregon and is rich in history, scenery and of course whitewater! It was really put on the map when it became the first Oregon River and one of only 8 rivers nation wide to be federally protected under the Wild & Scenic Act in 1968. Wet Planet feels privileged to now run a 6 day intermediate kayak instruction on Oregon's most loved river ...
OK, so loved for beauty and scenery. What else makes this a cool trip for kayaking? Well, it is raft supported, you don't have to carry your camping gear and can just focus on kayaking. The rapids are so called pool-drop style, so after each rapid you will have a moment to regroup and catch your breath (or equipment!). As you are developing confidence and skill, the river progresses and becomes a little more challenging each day also. The water level is reliable as it is controlled by an upstream dam. The weather is typically sunny and the water temperature pleasant.
To make it possible for you to enjoy this trip in luxery, while expeditioning in a kayak, we are supporting the group with several rafts, so non-kayaking friends and family can come!! The rafts will also be carrying all camping equipment, and an impressive kitchen. The guides love impressing you with their cooking skills at camp ...
