Day 4 - Wet Planeteer’s Kids’ Kayaking Course
Woohoo . . . day 4 was a blast!!! We spent the morning learning about the different classifications of whitewater (class I through class VI). After a short video, we brought out the foam to make our annual "Foamie Boats"!!! We spent some quality time perfecting the design of our kayaks. I would have to say that Green Bean won the award for the most creative foamie boat!
Once finished with our creation, we walked down to Rattlesnake Creek (a creek next door to Wet Planet) and watched our foamie boats head down through miniature rapids. The kids also formed their own rapids and pointed out undercut rocks and rocks which they could "seal launch" their kayaks.

Before the kids got their street clothes too wet (sorry moms and dads), we walked them back to Wet Planet base and prepared them for a day of rafting. The returning kids (who were 10 this year) got to plunge over Husum Falls (a 12 foot waterfall) . . . the rest of us waited on the Husum bridge in anticipation of their plunge. These kids paddled so good over the falls . . . they had the best line of all the rafts.
We then continued, with the younger kids, down the Lower White Salmon. Parents and siblings were invited to attend, watching and listening to what their kids had learned and done throughout the last few days.

Once the rafting was complete, we headed back to WP base and celebrated with pizza, juice and oreo cookies!!!! Woohoo, what a day!
I cannot believe how fast the days go by when they are filled with smiles, laughter and fun. It was only four days ago, when a group of strangers came together and sat around the picnic table, awaiting their first instruction. These kids are strangers no longer . . .

These kids played together, encouraged each other and helped each other, each day of the course, to become young kayakers. It was because of them, that the WP kids course was a success . . . I am SO PROUD OF ALL OF YOU!!!!
