Every Saturday at 10am, the Hood River Pool closes off an area of the pool to allow kayakers to get in the water and play. This past Saturday, the Wet Planet crew headed across the Columbia for a Saturday pool session. Heather worked with students during a regularly scheduled Wet Planet kayak pool session, while a couple other Wet Planet staff took advantage of the warm water to just have fun in our boats.Continue Reading
An opportunity crazy to pass on! Last summer a few instructors from the Wet Planet Kayak School (Andy Round, Steve White and Drew Austell) were invited to help out with some of the Sundance Kayaking School courses on Oregon's mighty Rogue River, and so a new relationship was born. Our instructors loved it, the kayakers loved it, Sundance appreciated our help, Wet Planet loved to do it. And now, we are happy to announce Wet Planet will run a few of our own kayaking adventures this summer on the Rogue River, in partnership with Sundance. We are all very excited to offer Wet Planet kayaking students a new trip! A 6-day overnight guided kayaking adventure, on an amazing river. The trips will be led by Wet Planet's top notch instructors so you will have the opportunity to learn a lot while traveling down pristine beauty. The Rogue is one of the best rivers to learn on. While honing your skills and building your confidence, the pool drop rapids progress a bit more in technical difficulty each day. Not only are you learning about kayaking, you also have time to learn about the historical value of the area and enjoy the spectacular scenery and wildlife. Well-known for both camping and its riverside lodges, we are choosing to enjoy the amazing beach campsites the river has to offer. Yep, that means there's good chance a bear might beat you to breakfast! Click here to read more.
We are back from our India Mission! Wow, what a trip, what a country. Beautiful, interesting, different, although challenging at times. Yet, can't wait to go back to see and explore more. India does that to me each time. In December 2009 Todd and I flew to India with the mission to explore a new destination for Wet Planet's International Wet Planet trips. We explored the possibility for a 12-day whitewater trip on the Siang River in India's NE Arunachal Pradesh. The Siang (Tsangpo in Tibet before entering India) is a beautiful river running through a very scenic deep lush river canyon, with BIG volumous water, located in the foot hills of the far Eastern Himalayas. This region is one of the most remote and least traveled regions of India, though many different tribes which have lived in the region for generations and even centuries. Continue reading ...

Last week the Wet Planet Winter staff traveled to Reno to attend the American Outdoors show. While attending the 3 day conference we learned a lot about the industry and got to visit with other outfitters around the country. During our stay we also visited the trade show and purchased some new merchandise for our retail store, we even went bowling. Read more about our time at the show...
Later this month our awesome Wet Planet owners, Todd and Jaco are off to India! What's in India? More rivers! Specifically the Siang River in Northeastern India - Urunashal Pradesh. We continue pursuing our dreams ... and those of many of our guests - or so we have been told - and are adding another adventure to our river repertoire! Stay tuned and read on about a new trip for 2010 ...
With snow on the mountains and ski resorts open, I think we can officially say that winter has arrived! So winter is here and instead of hibernating for winter Wet Planet is busy taking advantage of the replenished water in our rivers and making time to get up to the mountain and enjoy the snow!! Check out what were up to during the winter season!
Some of the Wet Planet gang as well as most of the boating community gathered in Hood River at the Columbia Center for the Arts to view the spectacular photography of Charlie Munsey. "Riddle of the Tsangpo" as the show was titled, was a collection of photography taken on a kayak expedition to Tibet to run the legendary Tsangpo river, considered the Everest of rivers. The theater at the center was packed, and all were treated to not only breath taking photography, but also stories of adventure, and lessons in culture. Charlie created an exceptional experience with his photogrpahs and his stories, Thanks Charlie!
I don't have any idea why we haven't gotten around to doing this before, but we've finally started using Twitterfeed to push our blog postings to Twitter. Essentially, if you're following Wet Planet on Twitter (@wetplanetww), you'll now notice that our blog headlines show up as Twitter postings. This means that Twitter users don't need a seperate RSS feed to keep up with news from the Wet Planet blog. Any new articles will come right to you on Twitter. Just trying to make it easy to stay in touch with the goings on around here.

First of annual Columbia River Gorge based First Descents class take place in July 2009, and was a big succes. The class was hosted and donated by Wet Planet to the non-profit organization First Descents. This wonderful organisation founded by kayaker Brian Ludden makes it possible for young adults with cancer to enjoy 5 vdays of kayaking for beginners. Wet Planet has supported the cause for several years and is excited to now also be involved in making a camp possible here locally.
Woohoo . . . day 4 was a blast!!! We spent the morning learning about the different classifications of whitewater (class I through class VI). After a short video, we brought out the foam to make our annual "Foamie Boats"!!! Then we went for an awesome raft trip. Check out this post to hear more about Day 3 of the Kids' Camp.
It's just keeps getting bigger and better . . . . I can't believe the second day is over already! Read more about day 2 of the kids' camp in this blog post.
We are now running the Upper Stretch of the White Salmon River! This means that the water levels are final perfect to begin launching all of our White Salmon River trips from our private put-in, 2.1 miles upstream of the standard commercial launch site. For all of our guests that have been waiting for this moment, it's here! Now is the time to get on the Upper.
