Hello Rafters, Kayakers,
and Group and Event Organizers,

The June newsletter from Wet Planet
Rafting and Kayaking is here, and we have great news for both
whitewater rafters and kayakers in Washington and Oregon:
Father's Day Special: This is
your last chance to take advantage of the Wet Planet Rafting and
Kayaking Father's Day Special. That's right ... Father's Day
is almost here. At Wet Planet, Dad's raft for free on Dad's
Day when they are accompanied by three other family members.
So, this Sunday, do something fun with the family and give Dad a day
he'll remember. Just mention this offer when you call for
reservations.
Our New Put
In: If you
haven’t already heard, Wet Planet now has access to a put-in
2.1 miles upstream of the normal commercial rafting put-in used by
other companies on the White Salmon River. During the summer, when
the water levels are lower, we will offer our guests a unique trip
down the longest stretch of class III-IV whitewater run by any
company on the river. This additional stretch of river includes
the two best rafting rapids on the river, a jump rock in the middle
of an unbelievably beautiful canyon, and more of the incredibleWhite
Salmon Canyon scenery. On a Wet
Planet trip, you will be on the river enjoying whitewater and
scenery for over 45 minutes before you float past the other
companies starting their trips. Once you have done this additional
stretch, you will not settle for less! In the summer months when
the water is lower, this exclusive trip is simply
unmatchable.
The
Kayak School's New Pool: Wet
Planet Rafting and Kayaking is now the only kayak school in the
region to provide a private pool for kayak instruction. Wet Planet has broken ground
at our headquarters on a new swimming pool dedicated to teaching
kayaking. The pool will
be perfect for helping beginner paddlers become comfortable in their
kayaks and for learning the basics of the kayak roll. For intermediate paddlers,
our pool sessions will allow kayakers to improve their roll
technique in a warm water environment. For advanced kayakers, the
pool will be a great spot to practice flat water freestyle
moves. With the
addition of our kayaking pool, Wet Planet Rafting and Kayaking
continues to set the standard for kayak instruction in the Columbia
River Gorge. We should
begin using the pool for kayak instruction in roughly ten
days.
Wet
Planet Guide and Instructor Andy Round is a member of the Multiple
Rivers for Multiple Sclerosis Expedition: This
September, an international group of whitewater kayakers will
attempt an expedition that is known in whitewater circles as the
Triple Crown of North America. This legendary expedition
consists of running three incredibly challenging and remote rivers
back-to-back: the Susitna River in Alaska, the Alsek River in
the Yukon territory, and the Stikine River in British
Columbia. Each of these rivers take multiple days to run, are
full of challenging big-water class V+ rapids, and are in a totally
committing remote river canyon. Only a few paddlers have run
one after another in the same year. In fact, the Stikine River
alone, one of the most committing river runs in the world, has only
seen successful descents by a handful of paddlers. The team
also plans to add a fourth river, the Homathko Riverin British
Columbia to the expedition. They will be the first group of
kayakers to ever paddle all four rivers in succession. The
challenges these whitewater kayakers will face require phenomenal
kayaking as well as rock and ice climbing skills, excellent
team work, and the determination to face the challenge of spending
numerous days deep within remote river canyons far from outside
assistance.
This
international group of paddlers (two from the UK, Andy who is from
the UK but lives in the US at Wet Planet, one American, and one
kayaker from Nepal) is hoping to use the expedition to help the
Multiple Sclerosis Society raise awareness for Multiple
Sclerosis. Through radio and TV interviews, written magazine
articles, and possibly a book, the kayakers hope to bring attention
to the challenges faced by people living with MS. Their
expedition will be supported by Kokatat (a company that manufactures
whitewater paddling gear) and Subaru (who is donating an Outback for
the trip).
Wet
Planet Rafting and Kayaking is also supporting the expedition by
providing support with logistics and time off for Andy Round to
train. These are the kind of expeditions that make us who we
are at Wet Planet, and we are excited for Andy as he focuses his
skills and experience on one of the most difficult undertakings in
whitewater paddling. We hope to report on the successes of
Andy's adventures and his safe return in October!
Help us spread the word! We may
have had a low snow pack this winter, but THE WHITE SALMON RIVER IS
GLACIER FED. There might not be a lot of snow, but the glacier isn't
going anywhere. We will have water to raft all summer long.
Visit our new Website! To find out more about our trips and
special offers, check out www.wetplanetwhitewater.com where we have

day. Everyone at Wet Planet is looking forward to another
great season, so give us a call and start planning your next
trip. Don't forget our Father's Day special ... Dad's raft for
free when accompanied by three family members!
