A
Wet Planet Gift Certificate is the perfect Green Gift during the
Holiday Season!
Wet
Planet Gift Certificates are great as Christmas Gifts, work
bonuses, anniversary presents, birthday gifts, or a simple way to
encourage someone you think will love being out on the river to
enjoy one of our trips.
As
an extra bonus during the holiday season, Wet Planet will include
a PADDLE GREEN TAG with every Gift Certificate. Each Paddle
Green Tag is a renewable energy certificate that represents the
generation of 100 kWh of wind energy and prevents 140 pounds of
greenhouse gas emissions (roughly the amount created during a round
trip drive from Portland to Wet Planet)! This means that with a
purchase of a Wet Planet Gift Certificate, we'll invest in enough
wind energy to offset the emissions when someone from Portland drives
out for a Wet Planet rafting trip or kayaking course.
Personalized
gift certificates are available for all of our whitewater rafting
trips and kayak courses. Just let us know which trip or course you
are interested in, who the gift certificate is for, and what you
want it to say. You’ll receive an 8X10 glossy gift certificate
personalized just for you and the recipient (and a Paddle Green
Tag).
If
you play your cards right, the recipient may even invite you along
on their trip!

News
for Kayakers:
The
Women's Kayaking "Paddle and Pamper" Series Heads to Costa
Rica
This
season, we have decided to kick-off the women's kayaking Paddle
and Pamper series with a week of paddling in Costa Rica! The P
& P Costa Rica Trip will spend a week travelling and paddling
throughout this incredible Central American country. On the river,
you'll be able to kayak in warm water (you can leave the dry-tops
at home) and refresh those paddling skills in a supportive environment
with other female paddlers. Off the river, you'll explore tropical
rainforests, lounge at the beach on the Caribbean Coast, visit indigenous
markets, and enjoy the Costa Rican culture. While traveling in this
beautiful country, Wet Planet will take care of all of your transportation,
lodging, and meal considerations.
The Paddle
and Pamper series is a unique program developed specifically for
women by Wet Planet instructor Heather
Herbeck. The program focuses on developing kayaking skills in
ways that benefit women the most. Aside from the skill and technique
portions of this trip that occur naturally on the water, we'll also
focus on the mind and body as well. Your days of kayaking will be
complemented by morning and evening yoga and relaxation sessions.

Paddling
the Deepest Canyons in the World: This October, the Wet
Planet crew headed to Peru to paddle the two deepest canyons in
the World.
Early
last Spring, Wet Planet lead kayak instructor Andy
Round hatched a plan to paddle the Colca River and the Cotahuasi
River in Peru. These two river canyons are recognized as the two
deepest canyons in the world, although there is still debate about
which of the two is deeper. Both river canyons are remote and committing,
and average 5 to 6 days to run. In mid-October, a group of 13 paddlers
(10 of whom were from Wet Planet) launched with rafts and kayaks
on the Colca River. By the time the end of November had rolled around,
the group had paddled the Colca, Cotahuasi, and Apurimac Rivers.
It is estimated that less than 250-300 paddlers have ever paddled
the Colca, and far fewer have run all three of these rivers in such
a short time span.
In
addition to these raft-supported runs, five kayakers from the group
also ran the Paucartambo River. Dropping from an elevation of almost
10,000 feet to 1400 feet in just 4 and a half days, the group logged
one of the fastest descents of this river known to date.
The
whole trip was incredible! From full-day treks with donkeys to get
gear into the river canyons, to never-ending whitewater, to camping
amid Inca ruins, this was an unforgettable paddling adventure.
Some
of the Wet Planet crew are already back in the States, while others
are continuing their adventures by travelling to Chile. To read
more about our Peruvian adventure, you can check out detailed river
stories from these trips on www.daysontheriver.blogspot.com.
Thanks to Jonathan
Blum for keeping up with the blog postings!
Here's
the Hot News: We loved the Cotahuasi trip so much,
that Wet Planet will begin offering a multi-day kayaking trip on
the Cotahuasi in the Fall of 2008. We are still working out the
details. If you're interested in kayaking one of the world's deepest
canyons, stay tune; we'll have more information in our next newsletter.
Thank you all very much for your continued support and for giving
us an excuse to be out on the river every day,
Team
Wet Planet: Todd,
Jaco, Jeff, Andy, Heather, Hootie, Steve, Ben, Liz, Chris, Christina,
David, Dave, Jonathan, Genevieve, Gynner, Steve, Carrie, Sara, Sarah,
Emily, Allen, Paul, Rick, Bob, Patty, Jim, Sawyer, Tica, Amelia
and Murphy!
